Hey everyone,

I've been seriously considering majoring in Tech Theater/Set Design and don't really know what school to go to. I have been viewing that large list of schools that was posted on CB but I wanted to know if anyone knows about other schools not on that list, so I don't have to limit myself to just one or two schools. (The only school that I have found so far, has been The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.) Also I'm not totally sure about what I should minor in when I'm in college, or do instead if being in Tech Theater/Set Designer doesn't work out, Any suggestions? I was thinking of possibly being a general tech teacher (Teaching this as well as other tech classes), architect, or graphic designer. (This is all I have so far)

More Importantly...

I was browsing the forums today trying to find info on schools and while browsing/reading the posts, I was hit with a major reality check that I think really brought me back down to earth. This got me thinking about my life after college, and my "plan B"/fall back plan. I know that I don't just want to do this for the rest of my life, I eventually see myself having a family, a good/well paying job, etc. So getting to my point, I'm asking anyone in this community that is/or has gone through a situation like this to give me some advice, I could really use it.

Thanks in advance,

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a high school senior applying for college and am trying to find some affordable schools in CA that have good programs. I am already applying to SUNY Purchase, DePaul University, USC, and CMU. But apart from Purchase without financial aid I won't be able to afford any of these schools, and I want to have a good option I can fall back on in case I don't get into Purchase and don't get any financial aid from any of the other schools.

Thanks for all your help

I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about Full Sail University, FL?

This school looks really good, good facilities and not that expensive compared to similar schools. It has a BA degree in Show Production and I'm very interested in looking at going there.

Does anyone know something about this school?
Greetings from Iceland...
if you know any particularly good ones in NY near the city that would be nice too because i feel i would like to try to work on Broadway for a least a few years and I'm sure it easier to do when your going to school right in the city.

thanks ahead of time for any advice.

also (PS? perhaps?) what kind of income do people who have been working in the field a few years get?
is it decent?

I an currently a junior in high school and I would like to go to college for light design. My parents have decided that we should start touring some colleges this year and I was wondering if any of you know of any good schools for this, if so please help me out. I'm already thinking about B.U, N.C.S.T.A, and UArts, so if anyone knows about any other good schools or whether or not the ones mentioned are any good, I would really appreciate advice.

LightingTrainer.COM Update

LightingTrainer.COM Home Page

I first want to warn everyone from this forum that our spotlight video is "that song" from TSO but I found some good amateur videos of the fantastic finale of the live TSO concert in 08. It really rocks!

FYI, we also recently posted an hour or so worth of video showing the Olympic opening ceremonies in Beijing. If you didn't get to see some of the great highlights, you have to watch the largest lighting/media show ever.

On the Basic page you will find a set of videos describing what a lighting career is like along with a commercial about being a lighting tech.

You will also find on the Basic page an interesting set of videos about trouble shooting a lighting issue in a theater. The in-house tech decided to post their problem and although it was fixed, apparently it is still a mystery for them. Can you say what the issue was?

You will find the TSO video on our Miscellaneous page along with a cut from Michael Jackson's last rehearsals.

On the console page you will find a series for the Elation Show Designer 2. This week we will be adding videos for the Smartfade and the Congo.

So as you can see there is always plenty of new stuff to view and learn about at LightingTrainer.COM. If you look around further, you will quite likely find even more new stuff.

Please visit today and often so that your career will remain strong and viable in an industry that demands that you keep up!

We also would like to welcome aboard our first set of industry sponsors for LightingTrainer.COM. We knew this project would be tough but with the backing of these types of sponsors we all can now be sure that LightingTrainer.COM will be around for years to come.

Please be sure to consider all sponsorship products because it is these companies and organizations who make LightingTrainer.COM free and available 24/7 to the hungry mind and this say's that they obviously care about YOU!

LightingTrainer.COM Home Page

Please never hesitate to let us know if you are not happy with anything about LightingTrainer.COM. We are here to serve YOU and would not want anyone to leave dissatisfied.

Many manufacturers are touting 3D display technology at the professional as well as the consumer level. It's great that the technology will be there, now there will be a need for training people to work with it. This article states that the degree is now being offered.

I have a friend at another school in my district and he has been talking to his TD about starting to use vectorworks. He got into looking I guess and discovered the educational version of vectorworks and now wants a computer to run that at the school. He talked to his TD about somehow obtaining a computer though the district and since his TD is new he has no idea how to go about this.

My friend then asked me if I knew anything about the process. I would ask my TD but his wife just had a baby and he wont be back for another week. If anyone has any experience with requesting this type of thing from a school district, could you please explain how your school district handles this or how school districts would normally handle this?
