Control/Dimming Horizon Dongle and License Question

I downloaded Horizon a couple of days ago and have since fallen in love with it, but after reading some of the other threads I have a couple of questions.

Question 1:

According to their website, Horizon has been long-since discontinued. I read the license agreement that came with the software download, and it said that it was free to use. Now I've read on here that you have to license it to the tune of $2/channel. I've been using it offline (WITHOUT a dongle or dimmers connected) and it seems to function. Is everything going to go to pieces once I connect the dongle?

Thoughts?

Question 2:

I need a moderately priced, but durable, dongle that will work with Horizon. Who has recommendations?

I look forward to your responses!

In my high school's auditorium, we have a total of 16 lekos, 4 fresnels, and 3-4 colored light bars. Currently, the lekos are arranged into eight pairs of two fixtures on the board. Currently, it is a bit awkward to work with pairs of fixtures, as some of the lekos are burned out/melted out (don't ask, bad electrician)

The question is: is it worth it to dedicate a 1:1 ratio of channels for each leko (one leko to one channel) rather than pairing them?

Thank you

The bases on each arm are wired together (in parallel) and then all of the arms are are paralleled together at the hub to a single piece of 18/2 lamp cord that runs up the center hub of the chandelier to a non-polarized edison connector. Using a properly wired edison to stage pin adapter, why when plugged in one way, the chandelier lights fine, but when you reverse the polarity of the connection it trips the dimmer?

I have several NSI DDS dimmers that I would like to convert to DMX. I know that there is a kit to convert them, but I do not want the 5 pin XLRs. I just want to know if anyone knows the part number of the chip that is included in the kit, so that I can convert the dimmers to DMX and use the 3 pin XLRs for the DMX signal.

The reason I am trying to do this cheap is that the system is used only once a year for my christmas display and in storage rest of the year. My control board is DMX and I already have a DMX to MPX convertor, but I am running out of room in the MPX range. So it is time to try to get all dimmers converted to DMX so I do not have to purchase more DMX to MPX converters.

Thanks for any help.

Is there a way to export all the Classes data and then import it into a new VW file? i guess I could just save the old plot under a new name and delete everything except the classes, but I'd much rather start with a clean slate and not have old settings/data still hanging around from the old show.

Hello all,

I've just got my hands on a 16/32ch NSI 7016 board for a community theatre project I'm working with.

They've only got four Chauvet LED fixtures and a few farmer-rigged PAR equivalents right now, and a Strand Cantata that I got the other day for $50. The board of directors was convinced by a music store salesperson to go with LEDs exclusively, which is a decision I'm slowly pushing them to change...

So, the setup is bare-bones theatrical at the moment.

The one thing I miss on this console (most of my experience is with a Leprecon 612) is the cue stack. I think for most of the small concerts (the only thing they've got running right now) they're running they'll be fine with presets, but for a serious run of a theatrical event a cue stack is a must.

So, I'm looking for a piece of control software that will replace that functionality, but work in tandem with the NSI board (so that we don't need to fire up the whole system for dimming the house lights and such when they're just playing a movie or something.)

StageConsole is my favourite piece of software right now, mostly because of how similar it is to the desks I've always used. I can't see anything about linking in an external console, though. can anyone confirm/deny that?

I'm really hoping to keep the budget at a minimum here. If there was a *perfect* piece of software that will do everything I need I could probably spend a few hundred, but I'm hoping I can do what I need (capture presets fro the NSI board, then set up a cue stack) with one of the "free" solutions.

I don't have an interface yet, but was planning on the Entec USB Pro.

I have come here a few times to answer questions, but this is my first post. I have been put in charge of a small space at school with a inventory of older Altman 360Qs. Is there any reason this pack would not work with two phases of the 3-phase? It looks like the dimmer modules are simply split between the 2 poles. Is anyone else using a dds-9800 on 3-phase power in this way? Leviton's tech support was no help, simply citing the published specs, go figure....

Okay
So I've just taken a Job with a small design company in Charlotte N.C. It Looks like it's going to be a little Rocky to start out with but After a huge personal debate I've decided to stick with it. We sell Chavet, Elation, American DJ and Martin products as well as do night club and church design and installation work. We're best known as the installation company for barbizion in this neck of the woods.
They've hired me to help the company branch out into the theater market. I'm in the process of putting together a basic theater packet using martins and the Colorado line. Even now my boss is looking with an eye towards conventionals, so putting together a rider pack should be the easy part
Here's what I'm worried about. Currently the only thing that they program on is the Martin Light Jockey. Which I'm not incredibly familiar with ..yet. It's a PC based program That's got some really cool stock effects, some awesome Pre-sets and a lot of control, but it only can record 12 cues. Not a typo. Here's the other fun problem. The standard board is the ETC express, the most high end is The Ion and the lowest thing I've seen is a leprechaun two-scene.
So is there a way to tie in the light Jockey to some of these smaller boards? How would I go about doing that and what are the odds i can create a "normal" show situation with higher end gear? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Do we have to bite the bullet and just buy a desk?
